101 Lessons Learned From 101 Projects
This book has been in writing since my first project as a rookie Project Manager 15 years ago! I tell the story of how I messed up my first implementation and ended up in an arbitration hearing that lasted 8 hours! This incident should have scared the life out of me, and I would have quit the profession altogether then. But I did not. I lived to tell the tale. And I systematically documented all those learnings culminating in the publication of this memoir.
I listened attentively to the findings presented by the arbitrator, particularly his view that while I reeked of inexperience, I also exhibited great passion for the Project Management Profession. He reasoned that I would be doing myself a favor by taking an Introduction to Project Management course to learn the tricks of the trade. The arbitrator further recommended that I invest some time in acquiring industry standards such as PRINCE2® if I wanted to use my passion effectively in managing projects.
Great advice!
Fast-forward 15 years later, I can attach Professional Project Management accolades to my name. I have attained the MBA to give me a strategic lens through which I view my projects. At the time of writing, I have had my proposed topic for Ph. D. studies rejected thrice! And each time I get rejected, I learn something; at the very least, I realize why my proposed thesis is not worthy of doctoral study and what I should do to make it more appealing to scholars.
Look out for my next book about how I eventually attained my Ph. D.!
I hope you may also learn from what I have learned and that you do not repeat the same mistakes I made.
I trust you will enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
